Description
Fucoxanthin is a carotenoid of the xanthophyll family, isolated from edible natural brown algae, seaweed, microalgae, kelp. Unlike β-carotene and lutein that are found ubiquitously in terrestrial crops, fucoxanthin is obtained exclusively from the aquatic environment.
Fucoxanthin has many physiological functions and biological properties, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiobesity, antitumor, anti-diabetes, and hepatoprotective activities, as well as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular protective effects. It can be used as both marine drugs and nutritional ingredients to prevent and treat chronic diseases.
